Rare find, Serval Cat toying with food
Serval cats are native to sub-Sahara Africa, but can also be found in North and East Africa. Serval are medium size and found in a variety of habitat, mostly solitary, and has a “near-threatened” conservation status.
I found this elusive Serval cat after it caught a mouse in the Masai Mara in Kenya. I followed it whilst toying with the mouse and found it strange that she did not eat her meal – I soon discovered she had 3 months old kittens nearby and she merely “prepared” the meal for them.
The little one in this photograph is anxiously awaiting Mom.
Both photographs were shot with a Nikon D850 at 400mm
