Mana Pools Location and Overview:
Mana Pools National Park is located in northern Zimbabwe, along the southern banks of the Zambezi River. It forms part of the Lower Zambezi Valley, a vast and remote area renowned for its pristine wilderness and incredible wildlife. The park spans approximately 2,196 square kilometers and is one of the most iconic wildlife conservation areas in Africa. Its name, “Mana,” means “four” in the local Shona language, referring to the four large pools that lie inland from the Zambezi.
Mana Pools Wildlife and Birdlife:
Mana Pools is home to an extraordinary variety of wildlife, making it a prime destination for photographers. Large herds of elephants, buffalo, and antelope are commonly seen, along with predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas. The park is also famous for its African wild dogs, which are often photographed while hunting or playing.
Bird enthusiasts will find Mana Pools to be a haven, with over 350 recorded bird species. The park’s diverse habitats support a wide range of avian life, including colorful bee-eaters, fish eagles, and the elusive Pels fishing owl. The combination of terrestrial and aquatic birds provides endless photographic opportunities.
