Description
Proactive photography is about seeking out and creating photographic opportunities, whereas reactive photography is more spontaneous and responsive to the world around a photographer, ie, capturing moments as it happens. Proactive photography involves planning and preparation, scouting locations and considering techniques to create the anticipated photograph.
In wildlife photography, the proactive approach is challenging and most photographers shoot reactively.
This picture, “Rhino under the Stars” was a proactive multi-exposure creation shot at Zimanga Private Game Reserve, in KZN, South Africa. The concept was to use an overnight eye-level hide at dark moon to capture the stars, and then use the lights of the hide to capture the subject. I was confident the concept will work, depending on the appearance of a suitable subject. I was fortunate to be alone in the hide and could compose my pictures and lighting conditions. The photo was blended in camera and cleaned up in photoshop. It is a stunning print that turns heads, be sure to order your print.
