The Story Behind This Bloubergstrand Seascape Print
The Beach
Blouberg Beach is located in Bloubergstrand, a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. This beach is particularly renowned for its stunning views of Table Mountain, one of the most iconic landmarks in South Africa.
Photographers flock to Blouberg Beach to capture the mountain’s majestic silhouette, especially during sunset when the sky is painted with vibrant hues, creating a breathtaking backdrop. Additionally, the beach’s wide expanse, clean sands, and the often clear, blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean contribute to its picturesque quality. The presence of kitesurfers and windsurfers, thanks to the area’s strong winds, also adds dynamic elements to the photos taken here.
The Kgalagadi
Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park is located in the Kalahari Desert, spanning the border between South Africa and Botswana. Nossob, a popular rest camp within the park, is situated near the Nossob River, which is typically dry but can flow during heavy rains.
The park is celebrated for its striking red sand dunes, sparse vegetation, and impressive wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, and numerous bird species.
Photographers are particularly drawn to the park for its exceptional opportunities to capture these animals in their natural habitat against the stark and dramatic desert landscapes. The best time to visit the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park is during the dry winter months from May to September, when temperatures are more moderate, and wildlife congregates around waterholes, making it easier to spot and photograph. If you are interested to book a photographic safari tour to this popular destination, visit our tour taking place this August for more information here.
What Came First, The Blouberg Photo or The Moon in the Kgalagadi?
Composite images are created by blending multiple photos into a single cohesive picture. Shooting landscapes in a vertical orientation provides a unique perspective and emphasizes different elements of the scene, offering a fresh take on familiar landscapes.
The seascape was shot at Bloubergstrand, Cape Town, with a Nikon Z8, using a 17mm lens, a 25-second exposure, an aperture of f/13, and an ISO of 32. The full moon was photographed at Nossob, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, with a Nikon Z8, using a 550mm lens, a 1/500-second exposure, an aperture of f/13, and an ISO of 1800. These two images were then combined in Photoshop. Purchase this image for your home, office or boardroom from our online store here.
